Golfer's Elbow
Melbourne Muscular Therapies
Pain on the inside of your elbow? Golfer's Elbow — medically known as Medial Epicondylitis — is an overuse injury to the muscles in the forearm that attach to the bony prominence on the inside of the elbow. You don't need to play golf to develop it; any repetitive gripping or pulling motion can cause it.
Your practitioner will take you through a series of questions, postural assessments, and movement and strength tests to pinpoint exactly why the injury is occurring. Treatment often extends to the overused muscles in the upper arm, shoulder, and chest — most commonly the biceps, pec major and minor, and subscapularis. Following treatment, you'll be prescribed exercises to complete as homework.
Our clean-first, build-second approach removes pain and dysfunction through deep tissue massage, then builds the strength and balance needed to prevent it from coming back.

FAQ's
Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis) is pain or injury at the bony prominence on the inside of the elbow — an overuse injury to the forearm muscles that attach there. Despite the name, you don't need to play golf to develop it. Any repetitive gripping, pulling, or throwing motion can cause it.
Initially, rest, heat, and compression are required. Gentle release work to the tendons and muscles attaching to the inside of the elbow alleviates acute pain. Treatment to the biceps, subscapularis, and pecs is often also needed. Support bracing or banding creates a compressive feeling that reduces stress on the elbow during recovery.
The muscles of the forearm don't work in isolation. Tension in the biceps, pec major and minor, and subscapularis (armpit) all increase load on the medial elbow. Treating only the elbow site misses the bigger picture — addressing the full kinetic chain is what produces lasting results.
