Happy Hamstrings – TIPS AND ADVICE

Easy tips on how to release your hamstrings at home to reduce pain and increase human function.

written by Aaron Kiegaldie Keeping your hamstrings strong and free from painful, adhesive knots is important to maintaining strong human function. It is common for the hamstrings to become weak and also an anchor point for dysfunction. Prolonged sitting, improper physical training and chronic poor posture can cause these issues to arise and ultimately ruin your hamstrings.

Through Myofascial Release (MFR) (Self-Massage), it is easy to release adhesive restrictions, painful trigger points and general dysfunctional tension/anchoring within the hamstrings. Daily MFR is critical to not only improving function of the hamstrings – it can be applied to any area of the body where there is dysfunction evident. To effectively release areas of the body you will need some of the following:

  • Lacrosse Ball | Cricket Ball | Spikey Ball
  • Medicine Ball | Soccer Ball | Softball
  • Foam Roller
  • Theracane

The following video gives insight into just one of the MFR techniques that can be used in order to release the hamstrings. In this video, I will show how you can release the pelvic hamstring attachments using a cricket ball. I also implement some active movement into the release technique, in order to make it a more efficient MFR.

In the following video, Naudi Aguilar from Functional Patterns explains some other techniques that can be used in order to restore function of the hamtrings.
